  5. OVERVIEW
  6. --------

  8. QuikMenu is a graphical menu system that allows you to use your
  9. computer more quickly, easily and more intuitively. Complex DOS
  10. commands are replaced by easy-to-use command buttons, pop-up
  11. windows and dialog boxes. Running programs is as easy as pressing
  12. a single key or clicking the mouse. Best of all you don't need to
  13. be a programmer to add an item to your menu.

  15. QuikMenu was designed to make using your computer system as easy
  16. and enjoyable as possible. You can use a mouse or your keyboard to
  17. access any menu function. QuikMenu runs in all standard graphics
  18. modes and can operate on most networks that use DOS commands.

  21. INSTALLING QUIKMENU
  22. -------------------

  24. QuikMenu includes an easy to use installation program. During the
  25. installation, a directory of your choice will be created
  26. automatically and the appropriate files transferred to your hard
  27. drive. NOTE: IF QuikMenu is already on your hard drive - you do NOT
  28. need to run the install program.

  30. To run the INSTALL program:

  32. o Insert your QuikMenu diskette into drive A:
  33. o At the DOS prompt (C:\), type A:\INSTALL and press ENTER
  34. o Follow the instructions on the screen
  35.

  37. STARTING QUIKMENU
  38. -----------------

  40. To start QuikMenu:
  41.  
  42. o If you plan to use QuikMenu with a mouse, your mouse driver
  43.   (usually MOUSE.COM) must be loaded first. Please refer to your
  44.   mouse's user manual for more information. NOTE: A mouse is not
  45.   required to use QuikMenu.
  46.  
  47. o From the DOS prompt (C:\), type CD\QUIKMENU and press ENTER. This
  48.   will place you in the QUIKMENU directory. NOTE: If you installed
  49.   QuikMenu in a different directory, then substitute that for
  50.   C:\QUIKMENU above.

  52. o Now type QM and press ENTER. NETWORK USERS: Type QNET [user name]
  53.   and press ENTER. For example, QNET John or QNET Sally. NOTE: You
  54.   cannot have two workstations using the same name.

  56. o When running QuikMenu for the first time, a dialog box will
  57.   appear asking if you want a menu created for you. If you answer
  58.   YES, QuikMenu will search your hard drive and automatically
  59.   create a button for any program it recognizes. Any programs not
  60.   found by QuikMenu can easily added at any time. If QuikMenu does
  61.   not find a program that's on your hard drive, and you know it's
  62.   in the proper directory, contact OSCS and we'll add it to the
  63.   auto install for the next release.

  65. o Don't forget HELP. If you ever have trouble understanding an
  66.   option while using QuikMenu, simply select the Help command
  67.   button from the top of the screen or press the F1 function key.

  70. REGISTERING QUIKMENU
  71. --------------------

  73. QuikMenu is shareware and may be used free of charge for a trial
  74. period. If you decide to continue using QuikMenu please register
  75. it. Registration entitles you to notification of future upgrades to
  76. QuikMenu, telephone support, and an upgrade path to our commercial
  77. products.

  79. Registration per CPU is $35. Since QuikMenu is network compatible
  80. network users may instead purchase a site license for $80 per 10
  81. workstations. VISA and MasterCard accepted.

  92. friends and associates as long as you do not charge for the
  93. program, and all accompanying files are included.

  98. USING QUIKMENU WITH CGA MONITORS
  99. --------------------------------
  100.  
  101. When running QuikMenu on systems equipped with CGA or compatible
  102. monitors you will NOT see any colors. Although CGA is in fact a
  103. color mode, it is limited by its low resolution when running
  104. graphics applications. QuikMenu requires a good portion of screen
  105. space for its dialog boxes, command buttons and help screens. In
  106. order to even run QuikMenu in CGA it is necessary to use the
  107. highest available resolution. In this case 640 x 200.
  108. Unfortunately, this mode allows the use of only two colors - black
  109. and white. While many games may run fine in the lower 320 x 200
  110. four color mode, that space is simply too small to accommodate
  111. QuikMenu.

  114. WINDOWS
  115. -------

  117. Programs that run under Microsoft Windows are not automatically
  118. installed by QuikMenu. You can, however, create buttons and run
  119. them like any other program. When adding a button for a windows
  120. program the word WIN or WIN386 must preface the program name in
  121. the command line. For example, to load Microsoft Excel:

  125. Runtime versions of windows programs do not need the WIN preface.

  128. PERSONALIZING QUIKMENU
  129. ----------------------

  131. There have been a number of requests to make a version of QuikMenu
  132. with a retail store's name on it. This can be done to some degree
  133. with a simple ASCII text file. If a text file named YOUR.TXT is
  134. created and saved in the QuikMenu directory, QuikMenu will
  135. automatically create a button called "Company Info" when it's
  136. installed for the first time. When the "Company Info" button is
  137. selected, YOUR.TXT will be displayed in a window like the one used
  138. for Help. If you would like to place your company name in the
  139. button, call OSCS for instructions.
